San Antonio Riverwalk

One of the most romantic things someone in or traveling to south central Texas can do with their significant other is spend an evening on the River ‘Walk in San Antonio.

The river walk is lined with restaurants, bars, nightclubs and shops. There are many sidewalk cafes where you can have a drink and just people watch. One particular one that we like it the Zuni Grill. There food is really good, but I would have to say their best item on the menu is the Cactus Pear Margarita. The first one you drink goes down like a fruit punch or Kool-Aid. It seems the second one does too, but I can’t really be too sure about that. The first one hits me before I am about half finished with the second one and then it is the Cactus Pear line Dance back to the Hotel

I have stayed in several hotels on the river walk in different areas of the River. So far, my favorite is the Hyatt Regency River Walk. If you are staying at another hotel, at least try to walk on over for the Hyatt Sunday Brunch. It is not to be missed…

The river is kind of like an oxbow lake that make a large loop around the down town area. It is pretty much lined on both sides with different fun thing to do. One way to get your initial orientation is to take the riverboat cruise down the river. It makes the big loop with a detour to the convention n center. This is a pretty good ride nearly all the time, but at Christmas it is especially beautiful with all the lights on the river. This is definitely not to be missed.

There are several sites near by such as the Alamo, Missions, The tower of the Americas and a quaint bar at the Menger Hotel. Also nearby is the UTSA Institute of Texas Culture.

Now guys, if your lady is interested in shopping, there is all kind of opportunity for her to go out and have fun. I am sure she will tire of having you under foot rather quickly so maybe you could just mosey on the Menger Bar and wait patiently for. I’m sure they will have several ways to keep you occupied for the afternoon.

After a day full of activity, my top pick for a romantic evening would be to check into one of the hotels on river (If you have not already done so). Shortly before Dark take the river boat tour followed by an outside table at the Zuni Grill. Sip margaritas and watch the people go by.

All in all, the San Antonio River Walk is a great place to get lost.

Have fun
Frank
