Review of American Express Platinum Card Services

American Express Platinum Card

I have held the American Express platinum card for about 10 years. I have been more than pleased with the service. Though the price is high for this charge card, it includes many special services. The American Express membership Miles Program is one of them. This normally carries an extra fee for membership, but this is included in the annual fee.

The other primary benefit is the admission into certain Airline club lounges. With Continental Airlines, it is the Presidents Club. This club offers a quiet place to relax in the airport with comfortable chairs and couches. They also offer complimentary drinks and snacks at the bar. For frequent travelers, this is a major benefit. For us men that sometimes travel with wives, Girlfriends, daughters, mothers, etc. they also offer clean uncrowded Restrooms before and after the flights. You can’t imagine how many points this will earn you with your significant other (even though they expire daily)

One benefit I can personally attest to is their emergency services desk. Once when I was in Jamaica on business, an associate left me with a bill for over $800 to be paid to a cab driver when I left the country. I did not have that much cash on me so I though I would just go to an ATM machine. I get to the ATM machine and discover that I had lost my card the last time I made a withdrawal. In a panic, I called American Express. They arranged a wire transfer via Western union of a cash advance to get me the needed cash. It only took a couple of hours. I was impressed.

Their Fraud division is also very good. In my weekly travels, my card is exposed to many people that can capture my number and use it online for all types of purchases. It has happened a few times. Every time it happened, American Express caught it well before I did. I really appreciate that.

They do require payment in full within a certain number of days after the billing payment, but that can be a good thing. I do have a friend whose business failed several years ago making him very late on his payment. He joked that American express asked him to leave home WITHOUT it.

If you travel a lot for business or pleasure, the services offered with the American Express Card are sure to make life on the road much easier
