A True South Texas Steakhouse

If you are ever traveling down Hwy 90 west of San Antonio, you will pass through the small town of D’hanis, Texas. Make sure you there around meal time. There is a steak house named Bill and Rosa’s.

I have had several of their entrees including their steaks. They do cook steaks the way you order them. Rare means Rare and medium means medium. I assume all other levels are cooked to the correct doneness also.

Now, if you are looking for that Texas delicacy called a Chicken Fried Steak, look no more. One word of warning, though. When you order the large and the waitress warns you, it is for a reason. It is big , tender and good. I did make a happy plate, but it is not a weight watchers meal.

They have live entertainment in the evenings.

I would definitely recommend this place if traveling in that direction toward Del Rio. You will not be disappointed

Sushi anyone? Try Genki Sushi in Honolulu

Do you ever get the taste for sushi and just have to have it, or do you think it would be like eating fish bait?

I often tell people that you have to eat it at least 3 times before you really like it. And believe it or not, the second time is the hardest. After three times, you will crave it with a cold Kirin Ichiban.

Last month when I was in Honolulu we went to a restaurant called Genki Sushi. It is definitely not authentic, but it is a fun place. Apparently it is the rage in Japan as it somewhat resembles a Japanese McDonalds. Read more

A Driving Texas Hill Country Loop

Friday afternoon Kim and I left for Rock springs Texas to look at a piece of ranch land. We headed down that long boring stretch of Interstate 10 to San Antonio. After a late compulsory lunch at the Oakridge Smokehouse in Schulenburg we settled in for the rest of the drive, Me at the wheel and Kim in the back asleep. (Nurses who work 12-hour shifts at night tend to want to sleep the next day.) I feel like I have driven the trip to San Antonio at least a hundred times and this one was no different.

What is that on the highway? It looks like……

In San Antonio, as we traveled along I-10 we saw the east bound traffic start to back up. As we drove past we saw the problem and then after we past, we smelled the problem. It seems that a tractor Trailer overturned and lost all their cargo on the highway. There cargo was none other than a big load of cow manure. After about 10 minutes of Cow manure jokes we turned off on highway 90 to Uvalde and the Winter Gardens area of the state. The drive passes through a combination of rolling farm land and south Texas brush country. You can tell that a lot of corn is being grown for fuel ethanol. Read more
