A Frio River Float

With the high prices of Gasoline this summer many of us are looking at staying close to home for our family vacations. this may be a trend for the near future

Anyone living in Texas should consider a trip to the Frio River near Concan. There is a beautiful state park there that the whole family will totally enjoy. the park I am speaking of is Garner State Park, named after Former Vice President John Nance Garner.

When I was growing up, it was the place for all the high school kids to go during the summer. There were always a lot of others in our age group. As we have all gotten older we still enjoy the park and the Frio river.

Frio is the spanish word for cold and it definitely is. the river runs cold and clear. It is a perfect river for grabbing an inner tube and floating along at a slow leisurely pace.

Camping facilities are abundant as there are spaces in the park as well as at several local campgrounds and RV parks. You may want to take enough supplies with you for your trip as stores are limited in the area.

Be sure to call ahead to check on availability of lodging and camping areas especially if going during a holiday weekend.

Happy floating
Frank
